As you know we spent a couple of days in Milan last week – and we did not want to miss the opportunity to visit the newly opened Starbucks Reserve Roastery. There is only 3 in the world: Shanghai, Seattle and now: Milano!

Just to anticipate one thing: We love Starbucks Coffee and the whole experience – and we enjoy it in every corner on this globe. Starbucks is everywhere, but what most people might not know is, that this is the very first Starbucks ever in Italy. And as you have probably heard, Italians love “their” coffee (but more on that a bit later in this post 🙂 )

The most beautiful Starbucks in the world

The Starbucks is located in the historical Post office building only a few minutes away from the famous “Duomo di Milano” right in the heart of Milan. This Starbuck is the crown jewel of all Starbucks and it was even declared as the most beautiful in the world by the Business Wire. But take a look at this beautiful thing yourself, because as the old saying goes: pictures say more than a thousand words.

Not just coffee – but so much more

This is obviously not an ordinary Starbucks. Besides a wide array of coffee creations which are only available in the Reserve Roastery, there is a coffee roasting facility in the middle of the building as well as you can order a wide array of foods and drinks (even alcoholic drinks and 100+ cocktails).

Something very unique is the coffee experience that is paired with freshly baked artisanal products (like cakes, croissants, bread etc.) from Milanese baker Rocco Princi. Obviously, we couldn’t resist the sweet temptation – and it was yummy.

A theatrical coffee experience

As part of the coffee experience, you have the possibility to visit different “attractions”. This might be the roastery facility, exploring different brewing methods or just simply drink a delish coffee at one of the coffee bars.

Is it going to be successful in Italy?

Since we have spent quite some time in Italy in our lives already (it’s only a 15 minutes train ride away from CH, and owning a house in Tuscany), we know pretty well how the Italians love “their” coffee culture. That’s why at the beginning I must admit, I was a bit sceptical about this whole idea of the how Italians will perceive Starbucks entering their country.

During our visit, there was a massive queue in front of the Starbucks – just to enter the building and then again to order your coffee. This clearly shows, that people are super curious. Both Italians and Tourists from all age ranges. I would say, a 45+ Italian is definitely not willing to queue for 20 minutes to get his daily espresso – but Starbucks’ main target group are most probably millennials. And yes, we are definitely willing to pay 13 EUR for a Whiskey-Barrel-Aged Cold Brew and a delightfully crunchy blueberry muffin 🙂 – not every day, but once in a while

That’s it for now 🙂

We hope you enjoyed the gallery, and make sure you visit the Starbucks Reserve Roastery next time you visit Milan

“…a place where Italian customers can come to discover the art and science of coffee in a breath-taking environment that is both an homage to the city of Milan and a celebration of everything Starbucks has learned about coffee in its 47-year history.”
