Nope, this is not a shot from the Maldives – I actually took it with my drone when I visited Struga/Ohrid, Macedonia for the very first time 🇲🇰Hell yeeeah – this area is absolutely stunning and definitely worth visiting. The traditional Macedonian cuisine is great, the people are awesome and the nature is breathtaking. So what are you waiting for? Let’s check out the pictures I have taken with my drone and my phone
Lake Ohrid from Above
Bay of Bones
In prehistoric times Lake Ohrid was home to a settlement of pile dwellers who lived literally on top of the water, on a platform supported by up to 10,000 wooden piles anchored to the lake bed. The remains of the settlement were discovered at this spot and were gradually excavated by an underwater team between 1997 and 2005; the museum is an elaborate reconstruction of the settlement as archaeologists think it would have looked between 1200 and 600 BC. Happy Boating on Crni Drim River in St. Naum
Happy Boating folks 🚣♂️ In St. Naum we hired this small boat and went to the springs of the river Crni Drim – from where the water originates and flows into the Ohrid lake. The vegetation of the springs is very lush and diverse – I mean look at these colors! 😍 An impressive eye-catching scenery with blue-greenish touch of algae. The water was crystal clear and of course the temperature was pretty low – so no swimming in there 😉

Ohrid Old Town
The historical town of Ohrid is nestled on the lake, and – as you can see on the picture below – boasts breathtaking views over the turquoise waters as well as stunning architecture. For example, we visited Tsar Samuel’s Fortress, which dates back to the fourth century. We passed the evening strolling through the streets and enjoying Ohrid’s bars and restaurants right on the lake.
